| There are so many things
to do in Fredericksburg, Texas,
you need a brochure just for that. You can literally shop till you drop. Or go
to museums, search out antiques, and eat until you can't anymore. Fort Martin Scott and Pioneer Museum will
give you a good idea what the early settlers had to face when they lived here. The
Museum of the Pacific War or Admiral Nimitz Center
will remind you what people had to do to be able to continue living here freely. Then there is my favorite past-time - driving
down country roads and looking at the wildflowers and the critters. If you have a bicycle
or motorcycle or want to walk, we have beautiful paved country roads right at the
ranch. The half-mile walk to the Christ Lutheran Church is really invigorating.
At the Ranch, we have horse shoes, a
croquet set, dominoes, and cards to keep you occupied. Better yet, sit down and read that
good book you never had time to read.
Watch the sky. At dusk you can see
what colors God will use to paint a sunset. At night the stars are so close, they seem
like you could touch them. In the city you cannot imagine how the sky really looks.
There are just too many lights. Listen to the quiet. You can hear the crickets and the
owls.
Listen to the birds. We have many varieties of
birds here. We have a bird book in the cabin, with binoculars if you like to
bird-watch.
Walk with your face to the
ground and look at the flowers you never knew were there - tiny blossoms of yellow and
blue and purple. Try to identify them with the wildflower book.
If that is not enough, we are only about 30 miles from Llano
and Mason. These are small towns in Texas that have not become citified yet. They both
have beautiful courthouse squares with the historic stores around them.
If you go into town to eat or shop or
whatever, you know that when you are ready to call it a day, you can come out to the quiet
and relax under the oak trees. Sit and visit with your friends. Enjoy what God has given
to all of us.
